Resources for Sixth Graders and Their Parents
Getting Organized:  Summarized from San Diego Union Tribune

  • At home:
Kids need all kinds of paper for school. Notebook paper, graphing
paper, printer paper, construction paper, etc. Put papers in a
filing container that can be labeled and sorted according to where
each type of paper is stored.
  • At school:
Place small, permanent labels with child’s name on all supplies.
  • At home and school: Create a color-coded labeling system for each subject.
Label notebook tabs, computer discs, etc. with this system.
  • At home and school: Have a different colored folder for each class and label
    it appropriately.
  • At home:
Have a file tray on the kitchen counter where the child can place
papers that need to be signed, important forms, permission slips,
    notes from school, etc.
  • At home:
Create a refridgerator gallery. Use magnets to put on the refridgerator
that can be used for artwork, positive notes from school, and
other pieces to praise the child.
