    How
do I find out what my current grades are?

      1. Grades
are uploaded to the web on a weekly basis by 5:00 pm on Fridays.
You were given an ID/Password at the start of the school year.
If you misplace this ID/Password, you can email
        Miss Schmidt
        to request the information again.
      2. Grade printouts
are given to students by Miss Schmidt approximately two weeks
before the end of any six-week grading period. These printouts
will be highlighted with whatever assignments can still be submitted
for partial credit. All late assignments are due one week
        after submission due date.
        NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS ARE
        ACCEPTED FOR MATH
      3. Students
receive an official grade printout distributed by the school
one week after each six-week grading period.

    How
do I find out what my current assignments are?

      1. Assignments
are given to students orally on Mondays along with reminders
        throughout the week.
      2. Assignments
are posted on the whiteboard at the side of the classroom on
        Mondays.
      3. Assignments
are posted on the class web site and updated weekly.
      4. Take advantage
of the buddy system - ask a friend!

    What
    happens if I am absent?

    You are still
responsible for assignments when absent. The teacher will not
approach you regarding assignments missed. Check the class web
site, talk to your friends, or confer with the teacher to find
out what you need to make up. Students who are sick have a three-day
window upon their return to school to submit assignments. (Please
write "Sick" at the top of the assignment.) Students
who are absent for other reasons should submit the assignment
immediately upon their return or before they leave.

    What
does the "?" mean next to one of my grades on the online
    grade report?

    The "?"
means that the teacher hasn’t gotten an opportunity to grade your
    assignment yet.

    Back

    What
does the "L (0)" mean next to one of my grades on the
    online grade report?

    The teacher
did not receive that particular assignment from you. You have
one week past the due date to submit the assignment for partial
credit if it is a social studies/science assignment.

    Most common
reasons students receive an "L (0)" on their grade printout:

    • Students
forget to put their name on their paper.
"No Name" papers will not be graded!
    • Students
try to turn the assignment in to a location other than the "In
      Box."
ALL assignments are to be submitted to the "In Box."
Papers put on the teacher’s desk, placed in the teacher’s hand,
or left on the classroom floor are guaranteed to get misplaced.
Papers put in the "In Box" are guaranteed to get graded!
    • Students
thought they turned in the assignment, but really left it in
      their backpack or binder.
Check your planner each day to make sure you know what assignments
are due. Keep a special place in your binder for all homework
that’s to be turned in that school day. Double check!

    What
happens if I submit an assignment past the due date?

    You earn half
credit for any social studies/science assignment submitted past
the due date. Social studies/science assignments that are not
submitted by one week after the due date will not receive any
credit. Late math homework is not accepted.

    What
happens if I forget to put my name on my paper?

    First Semester:
The teacher posts all nameless papers on the front whiteboard.
If you recognize, claim, and place it in the In Box within 24
hours of the assignment due date, you can still earn full credit
for the assignment. After 24 hours, you can earn half credit for
the assignment if claimed and placed in the In Box.
Second Semester: Nameless papers will be thrown directly into
    the recycle bin.

    I
got a lower citizenship grade on the last progress report than what
I was expecting. How can I improve?

    Review the
    citizenship standards that
were presented at the start of the school year. If you have further
questions, make an appointment for before/after
school to discuss your citizenship with the teacher.

    Which
grades are the "real" ones that go onto my permanent school
    record?

    Semester grades
are recorded on your permanent record. Progress reports give parents
and students an indication of how you are progressing in each
    of your classes.

    First semester
ends: February 2, 2007. Second semester ends: June 19, 2007

    Students’
math and social studies grades start fresh at the beginning of
second semester. Science grades are cumulative throughout the
    entire school year.

    I
have questions, but I don’t want to raise my hand in class, and
I can’t come in after school or at lunch. What do I do?

      1. Email
        the teacher
      2. Write the
teacher a note and place it in the In Box.
      3. Call
        the teacher

after school and leave a message for her to get back to you.
(Be sure to indicate a phone number and a good time to reach
        you.)

    How
can I get one-on-one tutoring for content areas that I don’t understand?

      1. Take advantage
        of the Homework Zone
A math/science and English/social studies teacher are available
to answer your questions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
in Room 302 from 2:15 pm to 3:30 pm.
      2. Make an
appointment to meet with the teacher before/after school or
during lunch. (Please do not approach the teacher during class
time to make an appointment. Either email
her or speak with her before/after class.)

    I
am not doing as well on math tests as I would like. What can I do
    to improve my grades?

      1. Study!
Sixth grade math is more difficult than what you experienced
in fifth grade even though you feel like you’re learning (or
        reviewing) the same material.
      2. Take advantage
of math retake options if you score 70% or below on the original
math test. Retakes are offered on Wednesdays during lunch one
week after the original test. Prior to the retake, it’s highly
recommended that you request a copy of the original test sheet
from the teacher so that you can assess your weak areas. It’s
also a good idea to visit the Homework Zone or arrange for one-on-one
instruction with the teacher. Students may earn up to 75% on
        the retake.
      3. You may
bring in one canned good (no dented cans, please) which is worth
one point on a math test. Only one can may be used for each
math test. Canned goods are donated to Stand
        Up For Kids
        , a non-profit organization dedicated to helping
homeless youth in the Downtown San Diego area.

    Is
there extra credit for each subject area?

    donated to Stand
    Up For Kids
    .

    Social Studies:
    No extra credit is available.

    Science: No
    extra credit is available.

    I
took a scantron test for math and would like to see the original
test so that I can figure out what questions I missed. Is there
any way to get a copy of the test?

    Yes. Once
the scantrons have been passed back to the class, you may ask
the teacher for a copy of the original test to compare your answers.
The best time to ask for a copy of the test is before/after school
or during passing period. Please do not ask for a copy in the
    midst of instructional time!
